Athletics

5th September 2023

Our Athletics squad completed a very successful year in 2022/23.  Boys in fourth, fifth and sixth classes trained twice a week throughout the year under the expert coaching of Mr Collins and Mr Meaney.  It was great to see the boys strength, stamina and technique improving as the weeks and months progressed.  The season reached its peak with the Cumann na mBunscol finals, held at the athletics track in UCD.  Star had a number of podium finishes and every boy represented the school with pride.  Comhghairdeachas libh go léir!

Hurling

5th September 2023

We are immensely proud of our 2023 senior hurling squad.  The boys trained throughout the winter and spring.  Each boy showed improvement as the year went on due to their dedication to honing the skills of hurling.  They showed resilience and sportsmanship in each match before narrowly losing their semi-final match after extra time.  These young hurlers could not have done any more to try and reach the Croke Park finals.  We are grateful to their teachers and coaches for facilitating the rich experience that our hurling squad members had this year: Mr Meenan, Mr Collins, Mr O’Brollacháin, Mr Meaney, Mr O’Maonaile and Mr Neary.

National Children’s Choir

5th September 2023

Well done to our wonderful fourth and fifth class singers.  The National Children’s Choir was a great success this year.  We extend our thanks, as always, to the organisers of the National Children’s Choir.  Our boys benefit greatly from their participation every two years.  Our thanks also go to Ms Doyle, Mr Meenan and Mr Collins for preparing our boys so well in advance of the concert performance.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

16th March 2023

Bhaineamar taitneamh as na gníomhaíochtaí éagsúla i rith Seachtain na Gaeilge.  Tháining banna ceol traidisiúnta, Airneán, go dtí scoil Réalt na Mara.  Bhí tráth na gceist ar siúl sa halla.  Bhí ceachtanna rince ag na buachaillí.  Mar is gnách in ár scoil, ghlac na buachaillí páirt i gceolchoirm mhór ar ‘Lá Glas’, an lá roimh Lá Fhéile Pádraig.  Bhí a lán Gaeilge in úsáid timpeall na scoile.  Tar éis Seachtain na Gaeilge, bhí gach buachaill sona sásta.

World Book Day

3rd March 2023

We celebrated Literacy Week at Star of the Sea from the 27th of February to the 3rd of March.  Our boys took part in literacy-related games, quizzes, and other fun activities.  We made sure to take part in reading activities purely for pleasure! There were writing and poetry competitions in many classrooms with a prize-giving at Friday’s assembly.  We even hosted a book fair in the school hall! The high point of the week may have been the effort that some of our boys went to in dressing up as their favourite characters from books of many genres on World Book Day!

Science Blast

3rd March 2023

Our Sixth Class boys presented their project, entitled ‘The Sweet Science of Lemonade – What is the Optimal Sugar to Lemon Ratio?’, at the ESB Science Blast in the RDS.  Supported by their teachers, Mr O’Brollacháin and Mr O’Maonaile, the boys set up their stand in the style of a lemonade stand.  When the judges visited the stand they were highly impressed and delivered very positive recent feedback.  All in all, it was a wonderful day for our boys, who did the school proud.
