Reading and Literacy

Reading and Literacy

Star of the Sea Reading and Literacy

Star of the Sea is a Literacy Lift Off school. This programme is implemented in the senior infant year, with excellent results. The school also participates in Literacy Lift Off, an intervention that gives children the opportunity to engage in a lot of reading at their own level of competency, whatever that may be, subject to a gradual raising of complexity in relation to both reading and writing.

The school is home to a wonderful lending library. There is a wonderful stock of appealing books, many of which have been included on the basis of pupil recommendation. Our wonderful Star parents manage a scanned lending system which pupils may avail of in order to self-select books of interest. The library plays an important role in the ‘motivation and choice’ aspect of the school’s approach to literacy teaching and learning.
