Gaeilge

I Scoil Réalt na Mara, tá an seanfhocal Mól na Óige agus Tiocfaidh Sí lárnach in ár Ráiteas Dúnghaoise. Creideann muid go h-iomlán in eispéireasaí dearfach na páistí go háirithe eispéireasaí foghlama ar son na Gaeilge.

Foghlaimeoidh na páistí an teanga le taitneamh trí mheáin gníomhaíochtaí idirgníomhachta lán le fuinneamh agus díograis. Tá béim ar an dteanga mar theanga cumarsáideach. Imríonn na páistí cluichí teanga go laethúil. I rith Seachtain na Gaeilge, bíonn muid ag céiliúradh ár gcultúr agus ár tradisiúin trí ceoilchoirm, damhsa agus dánta.

Gaelbhratach

Bunaíodh an scéim Ghaelbhratach mar fhreagra ar an ngá atá le deiseanna nádúrtha a chruthú ar an nGaeilge a labhairt lasmuigh de shuíomh foirmiúil an tseomra ranga. D’oibrigh an scéim le gach cineál scoile i ngach cearn den tír – idir scoileanna uirbeacha agus tuaithe atá ag iarraidh beatha nua a thabhairt don Ghaeilge, go scoileanna lán-Ghaeilge agus Gaeltachta ina labhraítear í mar phríomhtheanga gach lá.  Tá Gaelbhratach á riaradh ag Gael Linn le maoiniú ó: Foras na Gaeilge, an Roinn Oideachais agus an Roinn Turasóireachta, Cultúir, Ealaíon, Gaeltachta, Spóirt agus Meán tríd an gCrannchur Náisiúnta agus Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge.

Ag an mbunleibhéal, bronntar an bhratach tar éis 2 bhliain ar chur i bhfeidhm sásúil na struchtúr.  Tar éis athbhreithniú rathúil a dhéanamh ar chur i bhfeidhm Réalt na Mara ar phlean scoile uile chun úsáid na Gaeilge a threisiú, bronnadh bratach orainn i 2024. Lá bródúil a bhí anseo don scoil.  Táimid ag leanúint ar aghaidh ag neadú agus ag feabhsú ár straitéisí chun úsáid fhorleathan na Gaeilge a chur chun cinn.

Irish

We aim to cultivate an affinity with the Irish language through frequent, multi-contextual use.  Star of the Sea B.N.S. is a school where Gaeilge is associated with fun and expression.  Each year we celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge with a traditional music concert, prizes for using the language, and the annual Lá Glas celebration which includes the pupils’ ceolchoirm – always one of the highlights of the year in our school hall.  The school celebrates the history of the language, with our boys learning classic poems and songs.  We employ state of the art interactive teaching materials to teach and learn Gaeilge in class.

Gaelbhratach

The Gaelbhratach scheme was established in response to the need to create natural opportunities to speak Irish outside of the formal classroom setting. The scheme has worked with every kind of school in all corners of the country – from both urban and rural schools seeking to breathe new life into Gaeilge, to Irish-medium and Gaeltacht schools where it is spoken as the main language every day.  Gaelbhratach is administrated by Gael Linn with funding from: Foras na Gaeilge, the Department of Education and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media through the National Lottery and Straitéis 20 Bliain don Ghaeilge.

At primary level, the flag is awarded after 2 years upon satisfactory implementation of the structures.  Following a successful review of Star of the Sea’s implementation of a school-wide plan to boost the use of Gaeilge, we were awarded a flag in 2024.  This was a proud day for the school.  We are continuing to embed and improve on our strategies to promote the widespread use of Gaeilge.

The Irish language is celebrated extensively, with special emphasis placed on Seachtain na Gaeilge.
