Sustainability and Environmental Action

Star of the Sea BNS is a Green School and the holder of several green flags. The school’s most recent green flag was awarded in 2019, for achievements in relation to both global sustainability goals and litter and waste. Each Star Boy is responsible for maintaining green school practices in his own classroom. A group of sixth class pupils comprises the green school monitor team and the green school committee is selected from around the school via a democratic vote in each class.

The Board of Management has undertaken much work on the school premises to make the school as energy-efficient as possible. The school has solar panels on the flat roofs of the senior school building that generate electricity. Each classroom has a thermostat to regulate the temperature and avoid wastage of heating fuel.
