Congratulations to our senior debating team for reaching the final of the Dublin round of the Concern Primary Schools Debating Competition. After a successful run of online debates, the final was held in person at Dublin West Education Centre. Star of the Sea performed strongly against a talented team from St. Colmcille’s SNS. After a nail-bitingly close encounter, the boys were gracious in defeat and wished St. Colmcille’s well as they progressed to represent Dublin. Everyone in the school is so proud of the boys and their mentor, Mr Meenan for progressing further in this great competition than any Star team in the past. Debating is an important element of our school’s approach to oral language, SPHE and anti-bullying. Debating promotes critical thinking and collaboration. Practising debating builds confidence and models the art of respectful disagreement. All of the competitive debates our senior team participated in this year were broadcast in all senior classrooms, setting a positive example for future debaters.
