Each class took part in a drumming workshop with Neil Dowling. The boys enjoyed playing a wide variety of drums.
The Star senior football squad reached the final of Corn na nGearaltach and played in the final at Parnell Park on Wednesday the 6th of April. Our opponents were St Patrick’s BNS, Drumcondra. Both schools were among the eight founder schools of Cumann na mBunscol in 1928. After a very close match, St Patrick’s won the match. Our boys performed with skill and endless tenacity, as they had done all season. Everyone in Star of the Sea is immensely proud of these wonderful boys.
The Star cross country team performed very well once again in the Dublin Cross Country Race Series, this time at the St Anne’s Park school’s cross country races. Mr Collins and Ms Moloney have been coaching the boys twice weekly and the hard work is clearly paying off. See the pictures below (It was Funky Hair Day at Star of the Sea and some of the hairstyles are quite flamboyant!).
Our senior football team (5th and 6th class pupils) had a very successful Cumann na mBunscol campaign in the Corn na nGearaltach competition during February and March. The boys won all five of their games. They trained twice a week since September and their effort and determination paid off. Our teachers give of their time voluntarily to coach football teams and we are grateful to Mr Collins, Mr O’Maonaile, Mr O’Brollacháin, Mr Neary and Mr Meenan.
Our 6th class boys took part in a writing project run by An Garda Síochána in partnership with the Fighting Words writing project. Two members of the Gardaí accompanied Sara Bennett of Fighting Words to present our pupils with a copy of their book.
