Our Sixth Class boys presented their project, entitled ‘The Sweet Science of Lemonade – What is the Optimal Sugar to Lemon Ratio?’, at the ESB Science Blast in the RDS.  Supported by their teachers, Mr O’Brollacháin and Mr O’Maonaile, the boys set up their stand in the style of a lemonade stand.  When the judges visited the stand they were highly impressed and delivered very positive recent feedback.  All in all, it was a wonderful day for our boys, who did the school proud.

Pupils in our junior school have commenced hurling lessons with Shaunna Curtis, our school’s Games Development Officer.  Shaunna is a coach in Clanna Gael Fontenoy and she knows exactly how to teach the boys hurling skills.  In the accompanying photograph, we see some wonderful boys from our Junior Infant class learning how to hurl on a cold winter’s morning!

Our Fifth Class pupils recently visited the Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS.  They very much enjoyed the experience.  Our Sixth Class pupils are presently preparing their project, which will be presented at the RDS Primary Science Blast later this term.

Our Sixth Class debating team has reached the final four of the Dublin heats in the Concern Primary Schools Debating Competition.  Reaching the semi-final is an achievement that the boys should be proud of.  Our team prevailed in an exceptionally close contest against Solas Chríost National School.  Our opponents were excellent and it took our best effort to win narrowly.  The progress made by our debating team this year has only been possible with the support of their teachers, Mr O’Maonaile and Mr O’Brollacháin, our debating co-ordinators, Mr Collins and Ms Kavanagh, and the boys’ classmates in Sixth Class.

Neil Dowling from Drum Nature came to our school this January.  Every boy in our school enjoyed the opportunity to play various drums and percussion instruments.  As always, the boys enjoyed Neil’s amazing workshops.

We held our annual carol service on the evening of the 15th of December.  It was a wonderful service, with the boys singing beautifully.  Our teachers had prepared the boys to sing to a high standard and they excelled themselves.  The second class boys performed their nativity play with aplomb.  St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Parish Church was full to the rafters and the spirit of Christmas was very much in the air.
