On Thursday the 26th of April, Star of the Sea boys and their coaches made the short trip across the River Liffey to St. Anne’s Park in Raheny. We brought 40 boys in total from 3rd up to 6th class. On a fine spring day (yes the sun was shining!) the boys performed superbly.
In our first race, 3rd class boys, we had a clean sweep of 1st James Doyle, 2nd Zach Swan and 3rd Peter Downey. From there it was a stream of blue singlets filling the top 15 places. This set the tone for the rest of the day’s racing.
Our second race saw the 4th class boys led by Daniel Sheridan in 3rd place and several strong runs by the rest of the team with all finishing in the top 12 places.
For the 5th class race we saw another fantastic display of running with another clean sweep of 1st Liam Beaumont, 2nd Cian O’ Neill and 3rd Conan Mc Swiney. Again there was a river of blue singlets to be seen streaming through the finish line with all boys finishing in the top 15.
Lastly the 6th class race provided a fantastic spectacle. Patrick Devlin and Kai Stark ran strongly to finish in 2nd and 3rd respectively – made even more impressive by the fact that Patrick is in 5th class! It was another wonderful sight seeing the ‘Boys in Blue’ sprinting in to the finish line! All runners in 6th class race finished in the top 15. As an added bonus we also won the team event for Best Boys’ School and this trophy was collected by Ben Merry and Conor Sheridan, two boys who have been training diligently all year.
It has been a very successful cross country season and the coaches have been blown away by the attitude and work ethic of the boys from Star of the Sea. The manners and behaviour of the boys at training and races is truly heartwarming. We look forward to next season!
